Are lateral flow tests still accurate in 2026?
Antigen tests remain a useful screening tool, most reliable when viral load is high — typically in the first days of symptoms. They are less sensitive than PCR, so a negative result in a symptomatic person is not conclusive.
Should I buy a COVID-only test or a combo test?
A combo test distinguishes influenza A and B from COVID-19 on one swab, which is genuinely useful when symptoms are indistinguishable. COVID-only tests are simpler and usually sold in larger packs.
Do lateral flow tests expire?
