Distributing Care (“we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use distributingcare.com (the “Site”), how we use it, and the rights you have over it.

We publish for readers in the United Kingdom, the United States and the United Arab Emirates, and this policy applies to all of them. Rather than operate different standards in different places, we apply a single global approach based on the strictest of the laws that govern us, and then set out the additional rights that apply to you specifically depending on where you live.

1. Who we are

Distributing Care operates this Site as an independent publisher of buying guides for everyday care and wellbeing products. We do not sell products through this Site, and we do not process orders or payments.

For data protection purposes, Distributing Care is the data controller (or, under United States law, the “business”) responsible for the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us about any privacy matter at hello@distributingcare.com.

2. What data we collect

We collect only limited personal data:

We do not ask for, or knowingly collect, health information, payment details or financial data through this Site. Please do not send us health details or card information by email.

3. How we use your data

We use personal data to:

• respond to enquiries you send us;
• show you the regional Amazon store that matches where you are;
• measure how the Site is used, so we can improve our content;
• maintain the security and correct functioning of the Site; and
• meet our legal and regulatory obligations.

We do not sell your personal data for money, and we do not share it for third-party marketing. Please see section 9.2 for how the broader definitions of “sale” and “sharing” under some United States state laws apply to analytics and affiliate cookies.

4. Our legal bases for processing

Under UK and EU data protection law, and under the UAE Personal Data Protection Law, we must have a lawful basis for processing your data. We rely on:

• Consent — for non-essential cookies, including analytics. You may withdraw consent at any time.
• Legitimate interests — for responding to enquiries, securing the Site, and understanding aggregate usage. We have assessed that this processing does not override your rights.
• Legal obligation — where we are required to retain or disclose information by law.

United States privacy law does not use the concept of a legal basis in the same way. If you are in the United States, the relevant protections are your rights to know, delete, correct and opt out, set out in section 9.2.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small files placed on your device. This Site uses the following:

Essential cookies

Required for the Site to function, including remembering which regional store — United Kingdom, United States or United Arab Emirates — you have selected. These cannot be switched off.

Analytics cookies — Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the Site. This collects data such as pages viewed, approximate location, referring website, device and browser type. Google acts as a processor on our behalf. You can read Google’s privacy policy and opt out using the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.

Affiliate cookies — Amazon

When you click a link from this Site to Amazon, Amazon may place a cookie identifying that you arrived from us, so that any qualifying purchase can be credited to us. This cookie is set by Amazon, not by us, and is governed by Amazon’s own privacy notice for the store concerned. We never see your Amazon order details, payment information or delivery address — we receive only anonymous, aggregated commission reporting.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time. Doing so may affect how parts of the Site work.

6. Sharing your data

We share personal data only with service providers who help us operate the Site, and only as far as necessary. These currently include Google (analytics), Amazon (affiliate link attribution) and our website hosting provider.

We may also disclose information where required by law, or to protect our legal rights.

7. International transfers

Because we serve readers in three regions and our providers operate globally, your data may be processed outside the country you live in — including in the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area.

Where data leaves the UK or the EEA, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, or Standard Contractual Clauses. Where data leaves the United Arab Emirates, we rely on the transfer conditions permitted under the UAE Personal Data Protection Law, including adequacy and contractual safeguards. Copies of the relevant safeguards are available on request.

8. How long we keep data

• Enquiry emails: retained for up to 24 months after our last correspondence.
• Analytics data: retained in line with our Google Analytics retention configuration, after which it is deleted automatically.

9. Your rights by region

Everyone who contacts us receives the same treatment in practice: we will tell you what we hold, correct it, or delete it. The formal rights below depend on where you live. If more than one set applies to you, you may rely on whichever is more favourable.

9.1 United Kingdom and European Union

Under the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and, where applicable, the EU GDPR, you have the right to:

• be informed about how your data is used;
• access the personal data we hold about you;
• rectify inaccurate or incomplete data;
• erase your data, in certain circumstances;
• restrict or object to processing, including profiling;
• data portability, in certain circumstances; and
• withdraw consent at any time, where consent is our legal basis.

We respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you may complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. If you are in the EU, you may complain to your national supervisory authority.

9.2 United States

If you live in a United States state with a comprehensive privacy law — including California (the CCPA, as amended by the CPRA), Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah and a growing number of others — you generally have the right to:

• know what personal information we collect, use and disclose;
• access a copy of that information;
• correct inaccurate information;
• delete the information we hold about you;
• opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, and of targeted advertising; and
• not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights. We do not offer financial incentives and will not degrade your experience if you opt out.

We want to be straightforward about one point. We do not sell your personal information for money. However, some state laws define “sale” and “sharing” broadly enough to capture certain analytics and affiliate cookies, even where no money changes hands. If you would prefer to avoid this entirely, you can decline or delete non-essential cookies in your browser, use the Google Analytics opt-out add-on, or send a Global Privacy Control signal, which we treat as a valid opt-out request.

We do not knowingly collect or process sensitive personal information, and we do not use personal information for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal effects. You may also designate an authorised agent to make a request on your behalf. You may raise concerns with your state Attorney General, or, in California, with the California Privacy Protection Agency.

9.3 United Arab Emirates

If you are in the United Arab Emirates, Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on the Protection of Personal Data gives you the right to:

• request information about how your data is processed and to whom it is disclosed;
• request a copy of your data in a readable, transferable format;
• request correction of inaccurate data or erasure of your data;
• restrict or object to processing in certain circumstances; and
• withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

You may also lodge a complaint with the UAE Data Office. If you are in a free zone with its own data protection regime, such as the DIFC or ADGM, the rights granted by that regime apply to you in addition to the above.

How to make a request

Whichever region you are in, email hello@distributingcare.com with “Data request” in the subject line and tell us which country you are writing from. We will respond within one month, or sooner where the law requires it. We do not charge a fee for a first request, and we may ask you to verify your identity before we act.

10. Children

This Site is intended for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13, in line with the United States Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), nor from children below the age of digital consent in the UK, the EU or the UAE. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please write to us and we will delete it promptly.

11. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) across the Site. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Where a data breach is likely to result in a risk to your rights, we will notify you and the relevant regulator as required by the law that applies to you.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised “last updated” date. Material changes will be highlighted clearly.
