Best Body Moisturisers for Dry and Itchy Skin in 2026
CeraVe, Aveeno and NIVEA compared on ingredients, texture and format — to help you choose a body moisturiser for skin that feels dry, tight or itchy.
A body moisturiser is chosen on two things most people never look at: what holds water in the skin, and how much of it you are willing to apply. A rich ceramide cream in a tub works differently from a light lotion in a pump bottle, and the best one is the one you will actually use over a whole body twice a day. Distributing Care compared the current best sellers on that basis.
These three picks come from Amazon UK’s Body Moisturisers best sellers list. We compared them on the active ingredients each listing states, texture and absorption, container format and size, and whether the formula is fragrance-free — the detail that matters most on skin that itches.
How we tested & chose
Distributing Care built this shortlist from Amazon UK’s Body Moisturisers Best Sellers list, taking the highest-ranked products that suit genuinely different skin needs rather than three versions of the same lotion. Ingredients, pack sizes and stated hydration claims were read from each live Amazon UK listing on 12 August 2026, and are reported as the manufacturer states them.

Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to what readers ask most about body moisturisers for dry and itchy skin.
What is the difference between a body lotion and a body cream?
A lotion contains more water than a cream, so it is thinner, spreads further and absorbs faster. A cream holds more oil, sits on the skin longer and suits skin that is very dry or tight. Lotions usually come in pump bottles and creams in tubs, which is a reliable shortcut when reading a listing. Very dry skin generally does better with a cream, while a lotion is easier to apply over large areas.
How often should you apply body moisturiser?
Apply body moisturiser at least once a day, and within a few minutes of getting out of the bath or shower. Washing strips oils from the outer layer of skin, and applying while skin is still slightly damp traps water that would otherwise evaporate. Very dry skin usually needs twice-daily application, which is one reason pack size and price per application matter more than they first appear.
What do ceramides do in a moisturiser?
Ceramides are lipids that occur naturally in the outer layer of skin, where they help hold the barrier together and slow water loss. Moisturisers that include them are formulated on the principle of topping up what dry skin is short of, rather than only sealing the surface. They are a common feature of dermatologist-developed ranges and are typically paired with humectants such as hyaluronic acid.
Is a fragrance-free moisturiser better for itchy skin?
Fragrance-free is the safer starting point for itchy skin, because fragrance is among the most frequent causes of contact allergy in cosmetic products. That does not mean a scented lotion will irritate everyone, but on skin that is already reacting it is one avoidable variable. Note that unscented and fragrance-free are not always the same claim, since some unscented products use a masking fragrance.
When should you see a GP about dry, itchy skin?
See a GP or pharmacist if itching disturbs your sleep, the skin is broken, weeping or infected, a rash is spreading, or regular moisturising has not helped after a fortnight. Persistent itching can point to eczema, psoriasis or a reaction to something you are in contact with, and can occasionally signal a condition unrelated to the skin itself. A cosmetic moisturiser eases dryness but does not treat any of these.
