What is NAD+ and why does it decline with age?
NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme found in every cell. It helps turn food into energy and fuels enzymes called sirtuins and PARPs, which are involved in DNA repair. Research shows NAD+ levels fall as we get older, which is why it has become a focus of longevity research.
Do oral NAD+ supplements work?
The evidence is still early. NAD+ is a large molecule and how much survives digestion is debated, which is why many researchers focus on precursors such as NMN and NR. Human trials so far suggest these supplements are generally well tolerated, but long-term benefits are not yet proven.
Why is resveratrol paired with NAD+?
